Farmers and Food
We need to support our growing number of small and sustainable farms.
These farmers are reinvigorating our agricultural communities, attracting young people to the state, and providing us all with the opportunity to eat healthy, locally grown and made food. Specifically, we must encourage municipalities to pass food sovereignty ordinances, allowing neighbors to sell to neighbors as we have done for centuries without the interference of big government.
We need to use state economic development dollars to help with small-batch processing equipment and facilities, marketing, research and development which helps farmers grow healthy crops, incorporate organic pest control, and offer incentives for our schools, hospitals and institutions to use and serve locally sourced food.
I look forward to featuring locally sourced, farm-to-table food at the Blaine House with information about each farmer and producer as part of the menu.
